Spikey is a hedgehog who was born with beautiful, soft white hairs. Gradually these soft, white hairs turned into hard, sharp brown prickles. Spikey thought these were ugly and imagines having a different coat, like a bird, lamb, kitten, elephant, and kangaroo.
One day while imagining having a different coat Spikey learns that his dad was right and that his coat is useful.
WHY I BOUGHT IT
I didn't. This is my book from when I was a child. Munchkin LOVES it. You know what? So do I. I collect Cocky's Circle Little Books and this is one of our favourites.
The message is wonderful, you may want to change something about your appearance but it's your appearance for a reason, and no one else's.
I can see myself pulling this book out when munchkin is older and encounters bullying. I can also see us singing the song daily to drill the message in.

Disclaimer: This is entirely my own opinion. I have not been paid by anyone for this review and have done it because I like the book. I also do not claim to be a writer, reviewer or anything other than a book lover.
At my house, my 15 month old Flynn is loving a book called " Peekaboo Baby ". Its about a baby who just wants to play peekaboo, even though he's supposed to be eating breakfast, or getting dressed or getting ready for bed. A simple little childs book - and very cute!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an awesome book!
ReplyDeleteSimple is best for kids.
I also love Cocky's Circle little books and am now collecting them for my children :) Miss nearly 6 is just starting to read so they are fantastic for her. Do you have any double ups that you'd like to swap me at all?
